President’s Message
Bob Woods, President (centre), Comrade Bob Peterson, VP Provincial Command (right), and Aaron Richter, Sergeant at Arms (left)
Comrades.
As you may be aware, Provincial Command declared our 2025 December election non-valid and asked our previous Executive to remain in place until March 16, 2026, to which everyone agreed. It is an honour for me and fellow executive members to continue to serve you. There will be an election for executive officers and committee chairs following our General Meeting on March 16, with the General Meeting commencing at 7:30 PM.
I am pleased to report that our 2025 Poppy Campaign was very successful and raised over $113,000 for our Poppy Fund. The campaign was led by Tim and Wendy Blake, Co-Chairs; Helen Gitzel, Deputy Chair; and Lorraine Card, our volunteer in charge of the Poster and Literary contest. Our appreciation and thanks to our dedicated members, volunteers and the Cadet Corps who manned tables in businesses, while others helped by picking up and delivering Poppy boxes and supplies. The success of the Poppy Campaign is only possible with the strong support and generosity of the Airdrie community! Thank You!
100 Years of Service to Canada
Since 1926, the Legion has stood with Veterans, honoured the Fallen, and strengthened communities across the country. 100 years later, July 16th, 2026, we will be celebrating the Royal Canadian Legion's 100th anniversary - 100 years of service, community impact, and Remembrance. Dominion Command has declared that new memberships for 2026 will be free for anyone that was not previously a Legion member. We invite you to encourage family and friends to join our ranks and experience the camaraderie of Branch 288. Our hope is that many will join and continue to support our Legion as members in good standing long after 2026. Throughout the year, we are launching special initiatives, sharing stories from our past, and hosting events that bring the people of Airdrie together. From local Branch activities to national programs, there are many ways to take part, honour our legacy, and help shape the Legion’s future.
We look forward to welcoming you to a proud national community dedicated to Veterans, their families and Remembrance.
Warmest Regards,
Bob Woods, President
